My perpetual dream,
My search for myself,
Forever looked down upon,
Berated and beaten,
Bruised;
Battered;
Bullied into submission
By those who would never understand.
Those who thought little,
Understood less,
And feared so much…
I was scorned for thinking,
Thinking for myself—
As if conformity would have been better.
So through this dump of lies I wade,
This hail of pain,
This world of disdain,
Because,
In simple words:
Anything I have been forced through,
By myself;
My doubt;
My envy;
Has only made me stronger,
More resistant to the world.
But when man receives nothing,
No support;
No change;
No break—
He breaks.
As for me,
I will remain a while longer.
I have some will to fight yet left in me.
I just wish,
In a way,
That you could be the one to stand with me,
Stand firm;
Stand strong;
Stand ready;
Because you matter to me,
To my life;
To my purpose...
To my heart.
And I can't uphold the dream alone.
